The commanding strength of heavy iron, paired with the delicate charm of hand-engraved double cherry blossoms.
An exquisite "centerpiece of the room" imbued with a prestigious history.
This two-tiered period kimono chest carries the aesthetic sensibility cultivated in Nihonmatsu, Mutsu Province, during the Taisho era. Against the serene texture of the wood stands a large, circular iron lock plate of overwhelming presence. On this stage of iron, the master artisan’s soul is etched into every line of the hand-engraved "yaezakura" (double cherry blossom) motif. The contrast between the powerful iron hardware and the daintily blooming blossoms creates a breathtaking beauty that captures and holds the viewer's gaze.
A scene to color your life: As an interior piece, the small door with a bolt (choba-kobira) at the top right preserves its original design as a secret compartment for valuables, serving today as a special space for your own private collection. The moment you place a seasonal flower vase, an antique, or a piece of contemporary craft on its top surface, the very air around it instantly sharpens with grace.
With a presence that harbors a certain elegant splendor within the weight of its profound history, this piece creates a supreme "Japanese scene" that commands any room. It is perfectly suited not only for traditional Japanese rooms, but also as a console for a modern living room or entryway. We invite you to welcome this masterpiece into your home—a piece that embodies timeless craftsmanship and the luxurious, quiet appreciation of the passing seasons, filling your daily life with exceptional beauty.
